Sometimes I use phrases like “this afternoon” very loosely, to mean “sometimes in the next couple of days” particularly when I have opportunity to hang out at the watering hole with friends presents itself.

Throw a load of laundry in
Read to kids while they eat breakfast. Study things. Corral toddler into a visible portion of the house so that I can read to the other kids. Feed toddler cheerios under the table in a bowl so I can read to the other kids for a few more minutes.
Do a little cleanup.
Start sit down work with the littles.
Have 16 year old play with toddler outside while I do math and dictation with five year old for 7 minutes. We add and subtract chocolate chips and make letters into silly animals.
Field questions for half an hour about the universe and bugs and dinosaurs.
Have 13 year old read to toddler for twenty minutes while I do math and dictation with eight year old for twenty minutes. We dictate something from Ogden Nash, and practice multiplying and dividing up to ten or twelve with chocolate chips.
Drink tea. Quickly.
Field questions for half an hour about how babies are born and why there are flies in the summer but not in winter and facilitate discussion regarding why the mice in Cinderella can talk but real mice can’t.
Sit down work with ten year old for 45 minutes. Toddler on me, scribbling in fake homeschool beside me, sticking post it notes in her brothers hair. We are dictating something about a vorpal sword. We are practicing long division and fractions.
Do dictation with 13 year old and make a key word outline for a paragraph. Dictation: Tiger, Tiger by William Blake. Toddler plays lego with brothers.
Whoever isn’t doing their sit down work with me, or helping out with toddler is doing the things they can do on their own, like music or latin or reading their book or drawing or fighting about lego.
Put lunch out, read to kids during lunch. Study more things.. Do a quick clean up.
After lunch help 16 year old with essay. Put toddler down for nap.
Make tea, sit down, read and make my notes for the day for half an hour or so. Do housework for half an hour.
