In other news, I recently stumbled across THIS GAL, charming and lovely, and a beautiful writer. Courtney Carver doesn’t talk about anything homeschooling related, or parenting related, but she talks about SIMPLE and why it matters. And, I’ve said it so very many times: when you simplify one area of your life, the beauty of it spills over into the other areas.
That’s what I’m talkin’ bout. SCROLL the bottom of this post where I’ll put a list of the related posts to project 333!
Anyway, I think you’ll love her. I’m not inclined toward clutter (anymore) in most areas of my life (but not all), but the areas I have nailed make my life so much more clear to me. To declutter (clothes, food, stuff, activities, education) is to access more joy. A more joyful you makes you more accessible to your family. More available to love.
It’s that simple.
And so. Courtney is all about the wardrobe…but the heart of the matter is the same. Exactly the same.
So, while I think that I’m pretty pared down in what I wear without being weird, I’m taking up her challenge. I was surprised to find out that I have more clothes than I imagined. Not ten times the amount of clothes. But not 33 items for sure.
It’s exactly the same principal that I used for years as a large family to not be overwhelmed by laundry. Check that out HERE.
33 items for 3 months. She has a many ideas for choosing your items, what you can get rid of without even thinking about it, and how to pull together those items effectively.
The items include clothing, jewelry, shoes, accessories, outerwear. Not even kidding.
Here’s my personal challenge, and really the reason I’m doing this.
- I wear full length support stockings, and have for years as I have vein issues and they are life changing in terms of my energy level. The stockings limit some of my clothing choices.
- I wear primarily skirts and dresses because I feel prettier and more feminine.
- I won’t wear anything that doesn’t feel like pyjamas. It’s a harsh bench mark, but believe me, it seriously limits what you want to purchase.
I’m going to start today. February 12th to May 12th, all but the thirty three will get put away today. I’ve already put away the majority of things that don’t work in the colour palette that I want to use.
I’ll post some photos tomorrow. But until then, here are the colours I’m sticking with. Two main colours: black and cornflower blue. Accent colours: orange, yellow, pink, white. These are colours I already had, and already like and felt I wouldn’t get tired of. For the moment, I’ve put away navy blue, brown and beige stuff. So. Tomorrow, photos, problems. The philosophy of shoes.
So what the heck, you may ask, does this have to do with homeschooling, mammal-hood, family life? Being human?
It’s another road to simple.
