Education is clutter-free. Now laundry is clutter-free. These areas of my life are so HAPPY.
Surely this uncluttered way could alter the way we live. But how do I DO it?
2002. A book is published that takes the world of moms by storm. Sink Reflections by Marla Cilley. She teaches me how to declutter the rest of my life. One tiny step at a time. By the end of a year, I’ve decluttered the entire house without even feeling like I’ve added to my routine. I love her. She changed my life. Gave me concrete skills to work with that one could actually do with a household full of small children. Did I say I love her?
I first read the book from cover to cover to get a snapshot of where I was going. Then I went through, one chapter at a time and implemented her ideas as they fit into my family life. To this day, fifteen years later, that’s how I still operate.
Is the house pristine? Nope. Because that’s not the goal. The goal is functional, comfortable, able to find your stuff when you need it. Stuff not falling out of cupboards and closets. The goal of housework, routines, habits, efficiency…is JOY. To simply have more time for JOY without your crap weighing you down all the time.
I’m not even kidding.
