There are so many reasons to attend. Here are the ones that I think matter most.
We need, above all, to be encouraged. Everybody does. If you are a single mom, work in medical or retail, a counsellor, a depressed person, new to homeschooling or a seasoned vet – whatever it is you DO in your life, or wherever you ARE, most of us need to be encouraged. Hence the popularity in recent years of things like blogs and podcasts. But nothing really beats a real life speaker who has been there. Who gets you and why you do what you do. So many amazing speakers at the BC CHEC convention…check them out HERE.
I’m a lot about building community. I think we need other humans as much as we need air. Our neighbourhoods are often a group of people on a street who don’t really know each other. Sometimes, especially young parents, can feel really isolated. A convention can simply be the opportunity for parents to connect. Talk to people…read their name tags. It’s a beautiful thing to see connections happen. Some thoughts on community HERE. Come build a little community in at BC CHEC.
SHARING IDEAS AND RESOURCES
There are so many ways of approaching home education and family life. At a convention, take time to socialize, simply for the value of building community and sharing ideas. We all have something to offer, we all have something to learn. Even this far in to the journey of our family, whatever event I attend (even if I’m the speaker!) – I always come away with something I can add to my bag of ideas; for learning, for raising kids, for becoming a better me, for finding better ways to do what I do. Vendors, too, are a great place for ideas. You can touch and feel the resources you want in your family life. Our vendors are primarily homeschooling families, who carry what they love and what they’ve read, used and had success with. We can get our hands on it!
IT’S A GIFT
It’s homeschoolers…seasoned and savvy, wise and witty, giving something to YOU. Something of themselves. Something they’ve learned. So many amazing people work together to make a convention like this happen, it’s a lovely thing to see. Meet them HERE.
YOU GET TO MEET ME 🙂 (bwaahaha)
And, what’s more…I get to meet you. Exchange of ideas…exchange of thought…exchange of love…exchange of lives. Have a laugh or a cry, be lifted up, comforted or challenged. It’s therapy for all of us, really…
